Chosen song

My chosen song that I have chose for my music video is Beyonce - Broken Hearted Girl, I have done this through slow elimination of other songs before finally choosing this one. My main struggle was between this song and Emilie Sande - Read all about it (Part three) but then came to my final choice of choosing this particular song. I have chosen this song as I feel that it represents my personality well, also this is my favourite genre to listen to generally. I believe that a lot of people can relate to this song if they are going through heart break, I also think that I could add a range of editing techniques and different settings within this song.

Who is Beyonce?(sourced from wikipedia)
Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter (née Knowles; born September 4, 1981), known mononymously as Beyoncé is an American singer and actress. Born and raised in HoustonTexas, she performed in various singing and dancing competitions as a child, and rose to fame in the late 1990s as lead singer of R&B girl-group Destiny's Child. Managed by her fatherMathew Knowles, the group became one of the world's best-selling girl groups of all time. Their hiatus saw the release of Beyoncé's debut album, Dangerously in Love (2003), which established her as a solo artist worldwide; it sold 11 million copies, earned fiveGrammy Awards and featured the Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles "Crazy in Love" and "Baby Boy".
Following the disbandment of Destiny's Child in June 2005, she released her second solo album, B'Day (2006), which contained hits "Déjà Vu", "Irreplaceable", and "Beautiful Liar". Beyoncé also ventured into acting, with a Golden Globe-nominated performance inDreamgirls (2006), and starring roles in The Pink Panther (2006) and Obsessed (2009). Her marriage to rapper Jay-Z and portrayal of Etta James in Cadillac Records (2008) influenced her third album, I Am... Sasha Fierce (2008), which saw the birth of her alter-ego Sasha Fierce and earned a record-setting six Grammy Awards in 2010, including Song of the Year for "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)". Beyoncé took a hiatus from music in 2010 and took over management of her career; her fourth album 4 (2011) was subsequently mellower in tone, exploring 1970s funk, 1980s pop, and 1990s soul. Her fifth studio album, Beyoncé (2013), was critically acclaimed and was distinguished from previous releases by its experimental production and exploration of darker themes.
A self-described "modern-day feminist", her songs are often characterized by themes of love, relationships, and monogamy, as well as female sexuality and empowerment. On stage, her dynamic, highly choreographed performances have led to critics hailing her as one of the best entertainers in contemporary popular music. Throughout a career spanning 16 years, she has won 17 Grammy Awards and sold over 75 million records as a solo artist, and a further 60 million with Destiny's Child, making her one of thebest-selling music artists of all time. The Recording Industry Association of America recognized Beyoncé as the Top Certified Artist in America during the 2000s decade. In 2009, Billboard named her the Top Radio Songs Artist of the Decade, the Top Female Artist of the 2000s and their Artist of the Millennium in 2011. In 2014, she ranked atop of Forbes' Celebrity 100 and became the highest-paid black musician in history. She was included in Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2013 and 2014.

Research in to existing successful music videos

In class we have three successful music videos to show and give us an idea of what we should include and look out for putting in our own music video when we create our own. We looked at all the conventions which they have used and in the first music video they have straight away got a narrative which is really effective for music videos so with looking into this I will have a narrative in my own. Another conventions we have noticed in this music video is the use of different angle shots so the music video is exciting to watch rather then seeing the same shot all the way through. They also have used an appropriate location to make with their music video and their song, so with my own music video I am going to use correct locations to match my song and lyrics. Another convention which stands out very clear is the use of the good editing which matches the song, with seeing this I am going to make sure I include this in my own.

Research in to existing unsuccessful music videos

In class we have watched three unsuccessful music videos to show and give us a clear understanding what we shouldn't do in our own music video for example in the first music videos there is very bad handling of the camera therefore with my own music video and when I am making mine I will take a tripod with me so my camera doesn't wobble. Another part of the music video that was bad was the editing as it didn't match the pace of the song, however with my own I will make sure that my editing matches the song. As this is also a convention. In the first video they had used bad lighting so when watching the video it was very dark and we couldn't see what was happening, With my own I will make sure mine has good lighting. In the second video I had watched, they had only used the green room for their location and didn't change locations so this got a bit boring watching the same continuous room as this wasn't very exiting. They also hadn't used ideal clothing for the actors that was singing and acting the song as the song they had used had a rock genre, unlike the clothing of the singer which was the opposite. However with my own I am going to dress my actors in the correct genre clothing. There was evidentally no planning or research done for this music video as it seemed very rushed and the actors had no enthusiasm. Which with my own I am going to spend a lot of time planning and researching before hand. In the third music video we watched, they had a lot of unnecessary flashing which became very annoying and repetitive through out their film, however in my own music video I am going to make sure I edit my video in a different way to match the song rather then adding unnecessary flashing.
