Evaluation questions

How successful was your product?
I feel that my product was very successful as I think that my product looks very similar to the original on my comparison video. The video that me and my peers chose which is Lorde – Tennis Courts, we thought it was going to be a pretty simple and easy a task but when it came round to putting it together, it took a lot of time and planning and also adjusting the lights which was the key feature in this video as this was the main focus and effect.
What did you learn from carrying out this process?
I learnt a lot whilst completing my product. The main thing I learnt was that it took a lot of planning and thinking before actually filming my video; such as getting the equipment together, booking out the green room and also putting together Ambers makeup and hair which took time, so I have learnt that I need to ensure that I allow extra time for planning ahead. I also have learnt I need to be fully organised when doing this task and plan everything I possibly can and also think of all possibly things that could go wrong and to make other options available just in case. I also learnt how to do certain editing for example flipping the video over and also cutting it shorter as it was too long.
What would you do differently?
If I could do this task differently I think I would plan ahead more and structure the filming a little bit better as we had trouble with the sound as we need 3 different phones as we needed one for the lighting to watch the original video so we know when to dim the lighting and another phone so Amber could copy Lorde on her actions and lip singing, and also another one to play the music on so we all get the right timing. I think also I could change the song that we choice so that we have more chance to edit to practice for our second year so when it comes to completing the main task of creating the video we know and have experimented much more on the editing side of this task.
What skills do you feel you now have from carrying out this project?
I feel that I have many more skills from completing this task such as working with the camera and setting up the equipment and lighting correctly. I also feel that I have gains skills to work as a team, because we all was assigned different tasks to focus on separately then come together and bringing our ideas together to create the final product.

Evaluation

Overall, I think that the re-making of the 60 seconds music video went really well, however we had many different problems along the way. One of the problems that we had was the confusion in what days for the actress to bring her costume, therefore this slowed down the process of filming as only certain people from our group could only do certain days which made it much harder to get this filming done when we was all free. Another problem that we found that we had was setting up the lighting as we had to make sure we had 3 different types of lighting in different areas shining on our actress to give a 3D effect which was one of the right of her, left of her and below her. When filming we also had to make sure that the lighting dimmed and brightened up in time with the actual video, therefore we needed several recordings of the actual video for people to see for example, the actress so she knows what to copy and for Katie who was doing the lighting. With the editing, it went quite well as me and Billy was only present to do this so we had to make the footage flip so it was the same side as the actual video, and also cut out bits of the video at the beginning and at the end. We did a practice run of the video and wrote down what changes or what different things we need to do to make the final filming look the best it possibly can, this helped us a lot with our film screening and saved a lot of time.

Lyrics

The lyrics for this music video has been over played as she is not actually singing the lyrics as Amber did not have to lip sink with the lyrics, however she says 'Yeah' twice at the timings of 0.43 and 0.53.

Below are the lyrics:

Don't you think that it's boring how people talk
Making smart with their words again, well I'm bored
Because I'm doing this for the thrill of it, killin' it
Never not chasing a million things I want
And I am only as young as the minute is full of it
Getting pumped up from the little bright things I bought
But I know they'll never own me
(Yeah)
Baby be the class clown
I'll be the beauty queen in tears
It's a new art form showing people how little we care (yeah)
We're so happy, even when we're smilin' out of fear
Let's go down to the tennis court, and talk it up like yeah (yeah)

Filming Schedule

Our filming schedule has been done at two different times as we did did a practice run to see if we need to make any changes or adaptations for when we do our proper one, for example by doing a practice run we figued out that we had to know exactly when 'Lorde' says 'Yeah' as it needs to be the exact same time as the song and also that the lighting might be needed to be moved ever so slightly.

Our filimg schedule is:
   Friday 13th June 2014
   Wednesday 18th June 2014

Storyboard

In order to make the best remake we can possibly do, we had to make a storyboard to show step by step action of what we need to in each screen grab, for example if the lighting needs to be either lighter or darker. However with this specific video we chose there was no changes in the costume or make up so that stay the the same for each screenshot and the same with the cinematography as it stay a medium close up throughout the whole video.

Risk Assessment

Risk
Prevention
Lighting could hit someone on the head as they are on the ceiling.
Give everyone warnings and lift the lights up so no one hits their head.
Lights could get too hot and catch on fire.
Make sure lights aren’t covered and don’t use them for too prolonged a period.
Someone could burn themselves on the lights as they get really hot.
Warn people that they will be hot so not to touch them and make sure that no one gets too close to the actual lights.
Could fall when turning on the lights.
Stabilise what they are using to get high up to turn the lights on.
Someone could trip on the wires on the floor.
Make sure wires are out of the way, tape them down and warn people that there may be wires so to be careful.
Shot in a dark room so people could walk into things or trip over objects.
Make sure there is still a dim light so people could see objects and allow people to look at the layout of the room before they enter in the dark.

Location List

Our location for our remake of the music video is the green room in the media department at Wyke, as this has a black background with simple studio lighting as this is the same for Lorde' video as it is just a blank black wall with nothing else in the shot.

Cast List

For our remake there is only one main performer which is Amber Mason replicating Lorde as she is singing on her own and with no one else in the shot.

Prop List

For this music video they are no actaul props used as it is just a singular continuous shot of Lorde in front of a camera doing no extreme movements in a blank room with no specific setting.

Costume and Make up List

The costume for Amber is a black plain top under a fish net long sleeved top with black leggings as this reflects the genre of the music. For Ambers make up we have used very pale foundation as Lorde' face is very pale with contour, also with minimal make up on the eyes and just dark/purple lips as the main feature of her face to stand out amongst everything else. We also have copied Lorde' hair which is a plait across her head at the top with a side fringe tucked behind her ears, this also emphasises her face which is the main focus for this music video.

Transition Project

For our transition project we have to as a group, recreate 60 seconds of a music video, as group through looking through a lot of different music videos we came to the conclusion to recreate Lorde - Tennis Courts.
